Visual Field Test

When you receive a visual field test from the Council Opticians’ doctors, they are testing to see what your vision is like to see what prescription will best improve your vision as well as testing for symptoms of glaucoma or other eye diseases.

Allowing us to test your visual field helps us see where your eyes may have blurry vision or blind spots. It is important to test this yearly to ensure proper documentation of the progression of your eye health to accurately monitor any chance of disease and ensure protection for your eyesight.

A visual field test is performed to evaluate vision loss due to glaucoma, damage to the visual pathways of the brain, and other optic nerve diseases. When glaucome is diagnosed, the visual field data is used to determine the serverity of disease. Visual field tests are used to detect blind spots (scotomas), which could be a sign of eye diseases.

Optomaps

The Optovue machines we use at Council Opticians of East Aurora help us to get a full look at your eye health from the structure of the outside to the internal state. This non-invasive process will show us any inconsistencies with your eye shape, vascular structures, retina and more. It will provide images to us, showing us the composition of your eye inside and out helping us to best serve your eye care needs.

The optomap ultra-widefield retinal image is a unique technology that captures more than 80% of your retina in one panoramic image while traditional imaging methods typically only show 15% of your retina at one time.

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging test that uses light waves to take cross-section pictures of your retina, the light-sensitive tissue lining the back of the eye. With OCT, each of the retina's distinctive layers can be seen, allowing  your eye care specialist to map and measure their thickness. These measurements help with diagnosis and provide treatment guidance for glaucoma and retinal diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease.
